Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Sport Management

The College of Health Professions invites applications for a tenure-track, 10-month Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position in Sport Management Program in the Department of Kinesiology beginning August 2018. Candidates who wish to be considered for the appointment at the rank of Associate Professor must meet all requirements for promotion to the Associate Professor rank at Towson University.


  • Applicants must possess a Doctoral degree in Sports Management or related discipline. Applicants who are ABD are encouraged to apply but appointment will be a the Instructor rank and all degree requirements must be completed by February 1, 2019.
  • Evidence of scholarship agenda focused in an area related to the Sport Management discipline. Candidates who can demonstrate scholarship outcomes with potential for external funding are preferred.
  • Candidates must have the training and expertise to teach Sport Management courses in one or more of the following areas: marketing, management, communications, facilities and events, law and ethics, economics, finance, governance and/or analytics.
  • An established record of excellent teaching in higher education will be given preference.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary teaching, demonstrated success in working with diverse populations and students, and experience with a variety of teaching methods is preferred.


Primary responsibilities include: 1) TEACHING – provide high quality instruction in a variety of sport management courses, develop and refine sport management curriculum, and advise and mentor sport management majors as they matriculate through the program and prepare to enter the profession; 2) SCHOLARSHIP – development of a focused area of scholarship that includes refereed publications, professional presentations, external funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with faculty and students; 3) SERVICE – active service participation at the Department, College, University, Profession and community levels.

Department of Kinesiology:

The Department of Kinesiology, located within the College of Health Professions, has 30 full-time faculty and more than 1,400 undergraduate majors in Physical Education/Teacher Education, Athletic Training, Sport Management and Exercise Science. The department is also responsible for oversight of the College of Health Professions Institute of Well-Being’s Wellness Center that serves over 300 members each year with its programs that support student education and community outreach. In addition, the department has a strong, positive relationship with the University’s Division of Athletics.
