Duties: The Chief of Clinical Physics, Photon, oversees and supervises the clinically related work activities of clinical physics assignments (excluding proton therapy) in HUP/PCAM. He/she is responsible for supporting the Chiefs of Clinical Physics, Network, and the Chief of Clinical Physics, Proton, and the Vice Chair of Physics, by managing staffing from the HUP/PCAM physics faculty/staff as necessary for clinical physics coverage, including vacation time, sick time, etc. He/she is responsible for the organization of the dosimetrists and physicists assigned to photon radiotherapy activities (including brachytherapy). He/she coordinates the clinical-medical physics work at HUP with the radiation oncologists, therapists, nurses and participates, for this purpose, in department operation committees, review clinical needs and update the state-of-art treatment planning and delivery technologies. The Chief of Clinical Physics, Photon develops and improves patient related services and physics-related quality assurance activities at HUP and throughout the enterprise. This includes treatment machines, dosimetry equipment, treatment planning systems and associated data, as well as patient-specific treatment procedures. He/she is expected to maintain written documentation of procedures, data and various evaluations and investigations. He/she ensures that calibration, quality assurance, calculations and treatment plans for individual patients as well as the physics content of their charts are verified in accordance with national standards and regulations as well as departmental policy. He/she serves on the Department Quality Assurance Committee (QA/QI). He/she ensures compliance with national standards and state and national regulations.

Qualifications: The minimum of a Master's degree and 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. PhD is strongly preferred. Board certification by either the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Medical Physics or the American Board of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology Physics is required. Must pass Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Act (also known as Act 73) background checks, within 30-90 days of employment.
