Position Summary: The Associate Director of Development and Communications in the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center will be responsible for initiating, implementing and directing communications that strategically target multiple internal and external audiences, specifically donors and prospective donors, patients, media, advocacy groups and other community groups. This position will work to develop and implement communications strategies to support departmental and institutional goals and fundraising priorities that enhance the advancement and reputation of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. The program will utilize a range of communications and marketing activities and tools, including printed publications, donor solicitations, stewardship reports, media relations, and events. The Associate Director will serve as the managing editor of - and a primary content generator for - Cancer Lines, the center's newsletter, and Donor Honor Roll, the center's yearly annual report on philanthropy and its impact; the point of contact for UNC Lineberger communications associated with the university's Campaign for Carolina; and the principal collaborator with development staff working on major gift proposals, annual fund solicitations, stewardship reports, and special events.

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree with minimum of 5-7 years of experience is required.

Qualification and Experience: A minimum of five years of professional experience in communications, marketing, branding, public relations or related field with a proven record of accomplishment of success in clearly articulating strategic messages for development or sales communications. - Superior interpersonal/written and oral communication skills - Experience working with designers on publications from concept to printed product - Knowledge of the techniques for disseminating information to the public through various channels of communication including print, web, email and various existing and new social media channels - Excellent organizational skills - Excellent interpersonal skills and judgment - Attention to detail and accuracy Preferred: - Creativity and problem-solving capabilities - Knowledge of healthcare and cancer - Familiarity with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
