Primary Function of Organization Unit: The NCSU Libraries serves as the gateway to recorded knowledge and information for the NC State community and its partners, offering a competitive advantage in attracting and retaining the best faculty and students to the university. The NCSU Libraries' Special Collections Research Center (SCRC) is building an innovative, multidimensional special collections program in support of research and teaching at the university. The Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) recently awarded the Libraries a Digitizing Hidden Special Collections and Archives grant to support a three-year effort to create an online resource documenting the diverse and multi-disciplinary components of animal advocacy discourse in the growing field of human-animal studies. Essential Job Duties: The NCSU Libraries invites applications for the three-year term-limited position (June1, 2018 - May 31, 2021) of Digital Project Librarian for the project "The Animal Turn": Digitizing Animal Protection and Human-Animal Studies Collections," to be carried out in collaboration with the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The Digital Project Librarian serves as coordinator for a grant-funded project to create digital surrogates of unique and rare primary source materials. Work will be performed at NC State University. The incumbent manages production workflow, trains and supervises student assistants, oversees digital image production and quality control, creates and reviews metadata, coordinates work between partners, and collaborates with technology partners in the Libraries to support application development. The Digital Project Librarian develops the project's website, prepares promotional materials, and supports the project's outreach efforts. The incumbent will work in a highly collaborative environment with colleagues in the SCRC, throughout the NCSU Libraries, and with project partners to create an innovative, sustainable, and accessible online resource. NCSU librarians are expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. The position reports to the Digital Program Librarian for Special Collections.

Minimum Education/Experience: ALA-accredited MLS, MIS, or equivalent advanced degree awarded by position start date

Department Required Skills: - Relevant experience in digitizing and providing access to archival collections, with knowledge of format specifications and of standards-based metadata schemes, such as Dublin Core, MODS, or EAD - Successful project management experience - Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment - Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: - ALA-accredited MLS by position start date - Research library experience - Experience supervising staff and budgets - Knowledge of human-animal studies and the history of animal protection
