Life Chiropractic College West (LCCW) is seeking a qualified candidate to serve as the Director of Development.  This position reports to the VP of Institutional Advancement and is responsible for facilitating continued organizational growth in partnership with our faculty, staff and leadership.  The Director of Development will guide the College’s development programs and play a vital role in formulating and executing capital campaigns, fundraising, and managing the IA department.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Effectively communicate LCCW’s mission and program needs to all constituencies.
  • Assist in developing the annual plan that achieves the fundraising goals of LCCW and the department goals and objectives.
  • Strengthen organizational infrastructure through evaluation of fundraising strategies, communication messaging and understanding giving history.
  • Supervise development reporting and administrative record keeping achieving fundraising goals.
  • Manage master grant calendar and prepare program budgets, funder reports, and collateral materials.
  • Knowledgeable about the grant writing process and possess ability to manage grant writing contractors as and when engaged by the IA department. Managing and tracking grant writing activity will be an important part of responsibilities in this job role.
  • Develop and manage semi-annual direct mail appeals and internet marketing program.
  • Identify, cultivate and successfully solicit corporate, foundation, and individual funding sources based on donor cultivation best practices.
  • Effectively represent Life West at business and/or community meetings, and act as a brand ambassador in all professional relationships.
  • Responsible for supporting a social media and internet marketing plan as well as coordinating external communication  efforts that support fundraising initiatives.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with board members, donors, community leaders, faculty and staff.
  • Plan and implement strategic initiatives such as capital campaigns or major gift initiatives
  • Identify, cultivate, and steward major donors. Develop relationships with key donors and develop strategies that will bring donations to the School either through direct solicitation
  • Work with the Events team to plan annual fund strategies and to plan special events.
  • Support planning and implementing fundraising events and activities such as the WAVE, annual golf classic, Cal Jams and other events.
  • Work with the VPIA to publish Annual Report and monitor gift acknowledgment
  • Work with staff and volunteers to design detailed cultivation strategies for top prospects
  • Direct major gifts program-research, evaluations, solicitations and donor acknowledgment
  • Work with the Director of Alumni Relations to establish and execute planned giving program
  • Actively participate in programs and communication strategies designed to cultivate alumni loyalty through life long engagement.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities and performs special projects as needed or directed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and/or Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Communications, Community Development, Non-Profit Management or related field
  2. Five or more years of progressively responsible experience in the field of development preferred. 
  3. Prior knowledge and experience in higher education preferred.  
  4. Possess a strong track record in fundraising.
  5. Ability to demonstrate experience leading innovative and successful development activities to support organizational goals
  6. Ability to work with diverse groups of College constituents to achieve fundraising goals.
  7. Ability to coordinate a number of varied programs and projects simultaneously.
  8. Ability to solicit and close major gifts.
  9. Excellent manager of people and programs.
  10. Ability to build and sustain relationships with donors.
  11. Understand database environment including sharp analytical skills with data of all types.
  12. Ability to be flexible and a strategic thinker.
  13. Knowledge of accounting and fiscal management as well as competence in analyzing data and producing specialized reports.
  14. High degree of integrity; highly ethical.
  15. Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
  16. High degree of initiative and independent judgment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

  1. Nature of work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment. 
  2. Requires ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. 

    WORKING CONDITIONS 

  1. Work performed in a general office environment. 
  2. Periodic travel required.
