Salary: Initial placement, $65,837- $98,256 annually

Shift Differential:

Basic Function/Overview:


Essential Duties/Major Responsibilities:

•Teach a wide variety of entry level through advanced level Child Development courses in accordance with assigned course outline of record and scheduling needs, including early childhood observation/practicum, child development field practice, infant/toddler development, school-age, special education, and distance learning (on-line) courses.
•In close cooperation with other department faculty, participate in the design, evaluation, revision, and development of curriculum, course, and/or degrees.
•Participate in departmental and college governance activities through committee service and/or other appropriate activities to maintain and improve the instructional program.
•Work effectively with the Child Development advisory committee to develop and update curriculum to reflect current workforce standards and practices.
•Participate in appropriate professional development activities.
•Collaborate with campus and community programs in support of lab based field experiences for Child Development students.
•Collaborate effectively with other faculty, staff, and administrators to plan, develop, and implement programs related to the Child Development Department’s goals.
•Instruct and support positive learning outcomes of a diverse population of students through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methods.
•Perform any additional duties and responsibilities required per faculty contract, Title V - California Code of Regulations, or accrediting body.
•Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and participate in department/division meetings and committees.
•Late afternoon and/or evening assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.

Minimum Qualifications/Education & Experience:

A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
1. Master’s in child development, early childhood education, human development, home economics/family and consumer studies with a specialization in child development/early childhood education or educational psychology with a specialization in child development/early childhood education; OR
2. Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in social work, educational supervision, elementary education, special education, psychology, bilingual/bicultural education, life management/home economics, family life studies or family and consumer studies; OR
3. The equivalent (must attach an Equivalency Determination Supplemental Form), OR
4. California Community College credential, “Valid for Life” (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code § 87355 (If meeting qualifications with this credential, a copy of the valid lifetime credential must be submitted with the application.)
B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.
C. Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written English.

Equivalencies:

Preferred Qualifications:

•Experience developing college-level online courses and teaching in distance-learning environments.
•Demonstrated experience in the development of curriculum and programs that serve infants and toddlers.
•Record of academic collegiate experience supervising early education workforce preparation field experiences.
•Previous practical experience teaching or doing related work in early childhood educational settings for children ages 0-8.
•Experience as a Verifier of Credentials, in processing State of California Child Development Permits.

License(s) & Other Requirements:
The incumbent may periodically be required to get to a variety of locations. If operating a vehicle, employees must have the ability to secure and maintain a valid California driver’s license. The selected candidate will need to provide documentation of influenza, pertussis (TDap) and measles immunization, as well as TB clearance, as required by SB792

This is a full-time, tenure-track, 10-month contract position that begins in the 2018-19 academic year. Placement on the salary schedule is based on formal education, full-time and/or part-time teaching, and related work experience, up to a maximum placement at step 9.
