Position Summary

For the DETROIT campus DIME program. The NASAD-accredited Art Department at Metropolitan State University of Denver invites applications for the department pool for affiliate/part-time instructors of Art and Visual Literacy. Qualified applicants will be placed in the departmental pool and will be considered for affiliate/part-time departmental needs on the Detroit campus beginning Spring 2018.

The University is particularly interested in applicants who have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for under-represented groups.

Teach one to three classes (3-9 semester hours) in Art and Visual Literacy to students in a specialized commercial music program. The successful candidate will be encouraged to draw connections between art and music wherever possible, so some experience or knowledge of those connections will be useful. Teaching may include online, face- to-face, and hybrid instruction; face-to-face instruction may include day, evening, and weekend as needed. Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per credit hour basis for specific classes, as needed, usually on a semester by semester basis. Affiliate Faculty are not eligible for benefit coverage under the University’s benefit program. All such teaching assignments are dependent on budget and enrollment. An Affiliate faculty member’s duties include: meeting assigned classes or delivering on-line content consistent with university, school, and department policies; providing instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if appropriate, with department course coordination policies; being available, either face to face or electronically, to students in assigned classes to provide additional academic support as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment; and complying with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in Art History or closely related field.

Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English language learners.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate in Art History or related field.
