Research Assistant Professor in CSME/Lecturer in Psychology
Job Description: Loyola University Chicago (LUC), Center for Science and Math Education (CSME) and the Department of Psychology, invite applications for a full-time, one-year, renewable position as a Research Assistant Professor in CSME and a Lecturer in the Department of Psychology starting April 2, 2018. We seek candidates who will support public and private schools in Chicago and the surrounding areas in evaluating programs that help teachers and school administrators work together to provide the crucial opportunities students need to meet the requirements of the Common Core State Standards-Math and Next Generation Science Standards. Candidates must be able to develop a strategic plan, coordinate the CSME research team, and obtain grant funding to support this work. Additionally, candidates will teach one undergraduate psychology course in the Department of Psychology at LUC each fall and spring semester. Serving as primary researcher on funded grants with responsibilities including: * Co-leading with the project PI the planning and execution of research and evaluation activities, for example o IRB application and compliance processes o Designing and implementing research and evaluation plans o Creation of data collection tools and data management systems o Coordinating data collection, management, and analysis activities * Serving as PI or co-PI on evaluation and research grants * Leading and coordinating the CSME research team to ensure that projects are carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with the terms of funded grants * Data collection using semi-structured interviews, written and web-based surveys, focus groups, observations of classrooms and meetings * Analysis of data using varied systematic qualitative and quantitative techniques * Creation of reports for and presentations to various audiences * Coordination of communication between research team and other stakeholders * Assisting or leading as project PI or co-PI with management activities like budgeting, hiring and staff management, reporting to funding agencies Serving as research and evaluation resource to other CSME staff * Assisting in grant applications and evaluation planning * Consultation on research and analytic methods Strategically planning and seeking grant funding * With other CSME faculty and staff * With other Loyola faculty * With partners at other universities and organizations Promoting the sharing of CSME research and evaluation finding with multiple audiences * Presenting at regional and national conferences * Publishing in journals and books * Utilizing web-based forums for communications Teach one course each semester (fall and spring) in the Department of Psychology * Should be able to teach one or more of the following courses: Introductory Psychology, Statistics, Research Methods, plus one or more of our other popular undergraduate lab or lecture courses.
Qualifications: The successful applicant will possess: * a PhD in Psychology, with focus on learning, teaching, and/or education * At least five years of evaluation and policy research on math and/or science education programs, preferably in Chicago * At least four years of directing qualitative and quantitative evaluation research projects * Extensive experience in developing research/evaluation methodology, quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods. * At least two years of working directly with clients using strong interpersonal skills working with clients. * Strong skills in statistical analysis and data collection, including univariate and multivariate statistical applications with use of SPSS and HLM. * Experience collecting data from staff at CPS schools and at CPS central office. * Experience in teaching and training.
