Job description

Duties: The primary purpose of this position is to conduct biomedical research on the mechanism of mitochondrial PKA activation and its mediated phosphorylation under hypoxia and alcohol toxicity in cytochrome oxidase dysfunction and loss of mitochondrial DNA. Another major purpose is to evaluate the role of cytochrome oxidase dysfunction in altered cell proliferation and invasion using various tumor cells. Duties include planning, performing, and interpreting experiments, analyzing data, writing manuscripts, and presenting data at seminars. The position requires experience with mitochondrial structure and function, cell molecular biology, biochemical approaches and handling transgenic animals and use them in in vivo experiments.

Duties are to conduct biomedical research in the area of mitochondrial membrane and DNA biology in cultured cells and transgenic animals. Isolate and analyze cytochrome oxidase and other electron transfer proteins, measure mitochondrial functional parameters using ultra-sensitive methods, measure mitochondrial and cytoplasmic Ca2+ levels and investigate Ca2+ sensitive signaling and changes in cell morphology and invasiveness. The Duties also include planning, performing, and interpreting experimental results, trouble shooting, analyzing data, writing manuscripts, and presenting data at meetings and seminars.

Qualifications: A PhD in biological sciences and 5 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least two years experience in mitochondrial structure and function studies, and membrane analysis. Position requires hands on experience with molecular genetics, biochemical approaches, membrane analysis, mitochondrial functional tests, mitochondrial DNA analysis, various immunohistochemical techniques, immunoprecipitation, and enzyme assay methods.
