Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, under the direction of the Administrative Director of Perioperative Services, the Storeroom Manager/Instructional Support Assistant manages the Ambulatory Surgery Center storeroom ensuring inventory is appropriate, orders are placed timely, and the area is neat and organized.



Duties of a Storeroom Manager/Instructional Support Assistant may include the following but are not limited to:

  • Conduct bi-weekly inventory for all storeroom supplies.
  • Identify items to be reordered in a timely fashion and create releases against blanket PO's/contracts/Vendor assignments. Follow-up as needed on back-orders; work with suppliers on replacements.
  • Order medical gases as needed and change tanks on video towers.
  • Order daily linen supply and scrubs; monitor par levels and adjust as needed.
  • Order and receive daily bulk supply, stock pick room AM and PM.
  • Check stock items for expiration dates, monitor and return recalled items.
  • Monitor consignment breast implants; receive and track for appropriate patients.
  • Supervise Sterile Supply Technicians in storeroom; assign duties, assess job performance; complete annual evaluations.
  • Pick up trays from Central Supply in morning as needed.
  • Log implants for orthopedic service and place in appropriate storage location. Monitor temperature in sub zero freezer on daily log sheet. Change recording wheels weekly as per policy.
  • Maintain state vehicle log for ASC van; gas up when needed, make sure van in serviced appropriately.
  • Recommend/modify inventory levels based on utilization.
  • Log receipts in inventory management system; address delivery discrepancies with vendor. Assist Staff Assistant with Receiving and Accounts Payable problem resolution.
  • Monitor Lawson purchasing system for new blanket orders and revision of current orders. Interacts with designated staff in each surgical service for submission of change order requests for blanket orders to purchasing.
  • Physically travel long distances, while exposed to outside elements, to and from the ASC to the hospital several times throughout the day to make deliveries to the lab and Central sterile and supply areas.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Associates Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field and 2+ years' experience managing a storeroom. In lieu of degree, 5+ years' experience managing a storeroom. At least 1 year of experience with Lawson. Appropriate New York State driver’s license for the type of vehicle to be operated. Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor. Ability to physically travel long distances while exposed to outside elements.
Preferred Qualifications: Management of a storeroom in a hospital setting. Inventory control experience in a surgical environment.
