Annually named to the US News & World Report list of the best hospitals in the USA, the clinical facilities at the University of Chicago currently includes Mitchell Hospital, a 395-bed adult hospital facility, Comer Children's Hospital with 155 beds, and the Duchossois Center for Advanced Medicine, a 525,000 square foot outpatient clinic and surgery facility. In addition, a 1.2 million square foot new hospital, the Center for Care and Discovery, opened in February 2013. The Department of Radiology operates facilities in all of these locations to provide multidisciplinary care and education.

Job Information

Job Summary:

Under general supervision, formulates and defines systems scope and objectives through research and fact-finding combined with an understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements.

Responsibilities:
  • Documents requirements. Formulates and defines systems scope and objectives for moderately complex initiatives. Prepares functional, system, and program specifications.
  • Acts as a liaison between the IT development group and the department for the development and implementation of new systems and enhancements of existing systems.
  • Evaluates new IT developments, identifies systems requirements, keeps up with evolving business requirements, and recommends appropriate systems alternatives and/or enhancements to current systems.
  • Modifies or adapts existing applications and revises existing system logic difficulties as necessary, or designs, develops, and implements new applications, systems architecture, network systems, and applications infrastructures.
  • Codes, tests, debugs, and implements software solutions. May guide and advise less-experienced Business Systems Analysts.
  • Prepares communications and may make presentations on system enhancements and/or alternatives.
  • EPIC Radiant – the analyst acts independently in building new orders, in coordinating staff/ faculty security access to applications on which they rely, modifying care instructions, and making required modifications to existing order sets.
  • Periodic 24/ 7 Call: One week out of every six, the analyst is on 24/ 7 call to support all clinical and operation needs, including but not limited to 54 clinical applications (including six tier one operating systems).
  • Project Management: The analyst is responsible for a portfolio of projects. Including but not limited to application deployment, management of application upgrades, etc.. Also, the analyst is responsible for monitoring reports and ensuring that required workflows are in followed.


Competencies:
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in business systems analysis or business process redesign required.
  • Broad knowledge of Business Systems Analysis and the ability to apply principles, practices, and procedures and complete moderately complex assignments required.
  • Knowledge of project management principles required. Knowledge of the organization, processes, customers, and current IT capabilities required.
  • Ability to analyze moderately complex business systems required. Ability to solve a range of moderately complex IT problems required.
  • Ability to implement possible solutions using some creativity and ingenuity required. Ability to interpret internal or external business issues required. Ability to collaborate and be a team player required. Ability to effectively converse with, and listen to, all levels of users to understand their environment and the impact of system changes required.

Education, Experience and Certifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree or relevant certification in healthcare, business management or information systems is required.


Experience:
  • Prior experience with information system software solutions or equivalent clinical experience is required.
  • Knowledge of Business Systems Analysis and the ability to apply principles, practices, and procedures and complete moderately complex assignments required.
  • Knowledge of project management principles required. Knowledge of the organization, processes, customers, and current IT capabilities required.
