Position Summary:

Serves as cashier for the University & provides backup to Student Accounts office.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Nature of Responsibilities

  • Assisting students, parents and others with student account related questions

  • Assisting with term billing and the downloading & filing of monthly statements

  • Evaluating accounts for billing errors and making appropriate corrections

  • Performing collection of balances due on student accounts

  • Collaborating with departments on campus to ensure the posting of fees and charges

  • Setting up and maintaining payment plans

  • Creating billing and payment codes

  • Assisting with sponsor billing

  • Assisting with the processing of fees and holds on delinquent accounts

  • Performing backup responsibilities for the Director of Student Accounts and the cashier in their absences

  • Performing various tasks related to student loan programs

  • Processing and disbursing refunds to students and parents

  • Ordering supplies for the Student Accounts office

  • Assist in maintaining Student Accounts pages on the University website

  • Performing other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalency required. Two years of college with coursework in accounting, finance, and Microsoft Excel preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of three years of accounts receivables or equivalent experience required; additional years of experience preferred. Previous experience in handling cash a preferred.

Candidates must have:

  • Strong written and oral communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Ability to patiently, diplomatically and professionally respond to and diffuse challenging customer situations.

  • Strong proficiency with technology, especially Microsoft Excel. Ability to quickly learn new computer skills is essential.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Strong organizational skills and have the ability to meet deadlines and balance competing priorities.

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Excellent record keeping and file maintenance skills

  • Ability to work independently as well as to establish and maintain harmonious relations with staff, faculty, students, and parents

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two years of college with course work in accounting, bookkeeping, and Microsoft Excel (or equivalent education/training)
  • Additional years of experience
  • Cash handling or banking experience
  • Higher education experience

TYPICAL WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm


PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORKING CONDITIONS:

Typical work is performed indoors in a normal office environment.
