Purpose of Job

The Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting university accounting and financial reporting and analyses of the University.

Scope of Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the University accounting, financial reporting and analyses of the University. In addition, the SA will also be responsible for preparing financial schedules for various general ledger accounts. Generate monthly analyses, projections and other financial management reports. Interpret and analyze complicated large scale data sets from numerous financial systems to prepare various ad hoc reports. Perform monthly analyses of certain general ledger accounts to include identification and resolution of general ledger accounts with problems. Establishing internal controls for other systems such as payroll and student accounts. Revamping outdated processes and assisting in the development of a new suite of financial and operational reports. Preparing annual financial reports and preparing and reviewing bank reconciliation. The SA will be responsible for executing and analyzing complex accounting transactions utilizing sophisticated technology.


Bachelor degree in accounting and minimum of 5 years of experience.
• Masters of Public Accountancy or related field
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
• Experience with Banner or similar ERP System
• Proficiency in the use of computerized accounting systems, integrated computer systems
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Products, Word, and Excel.

Essential Job Functions

• Responsible for preparing all financial reports or the University
• Manage and reconcile fixed asset accounts
• Perform bank reconciliation for the University
• Processes month-end and year end closure of University books
• Ensure accurate and timely preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual ad hoc reports
• Maintain fixed asset accounting ledger including recording depreciation
• Prepares support schedules and other analyses as needed for the long-range planning including projections of revenues and expenses
• Ensures the accuracy of all account reconciliations through
monthly analysis and reconciliation of assigned balance sheet accounts.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Ability to effectively analyze data and queries, think critically and make independent decisions
• Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
• A willingness and passion to learn new hardware and software systems
• Knowledge of GASB
• Ability to work part of a team or alone without close supervision
• Knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, IRS 1099 reporting requirements
• Ability to use Banner ERP systems, Microsoft Office.
