Essential Functions

Creative Strategy: As the leader of the Advancement Marketing and Communications team (part of the larger Creative Engagement team), facilitate the planning and execution of on-brand, integrated (digital, print, social, paid/earned/owned media) marketing and communication plans that lead to measurable results against program and campaign goals. This will require working at the strategic level with both the staff the Director leads and a variety of internal stakeholders across units and colleges. Existing engagement programs include alumni chapters, alumni career services, lifelong learning, alumni travel, young alumni, affinity alumni, annual giving, parent giving, donor societies, and signature events such as Founders Day,
Alumni Weekend, One Day for DU, Homecoming, 50th Reunion and Pioneer Symposium (lifelong learning). This role will also be a key partner in shaping marketing and communications strategies for new programming and campaign activities. Establish solid marketing and communications plans that deliver results and then experiment and improvise to discover creative innovations.

Digital Engagement Strategy and Implementation: Lead the planning, implementation, tracking and reporting for digital marketing activities in support of engagement strategies and campaign goals. This includes developing creative solutions that drive results, directing email/web/community/social engagement, collaborating with program managers to define and track measurable goals and performance indicators, optimizing paid/earned/owned/shared media as well as organic search and SEO, delivering meaningful and accessible user experiences, maintaining a digital marketing dashboard, and improving strategies and process. With a true passion for digital marketing and engagement, stay aware of trends and innovations in the ever-evolving digital and social space and drive high-level discussions on the role of digital within the marketing ecosystem. Creative Team Management: Instilling a winning, positive attitude, lead and grow a dynamic team that currently includes four full-time direct reports as well as student workers, freelancers and vendors in the development and execution of engagement strategies. This role will strategically allocate staffing resources to meet the evolving needs of projects. Staff includes digital engagement, content strategy/marketing, writing and design professionals. Manage student workers responsible for social engagement and website maintenance. Oversee vendor relationship with iModules, including contract and new services negotiation and issue escalation, and communicate best practices to campus users. Develop and manage roles with a variety of freelancers and vendors as needed, includes developing RFPs, evaluating vendor and freelance ability and capacity, serving as key contact during vendor and freelance engagements and overseeing production to ensure great results. Inspire team members to reach beyond the standard to deliver exceptional results.

University Citizenship: Work closely with the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Creative Engagement to represent the interests of DU Advancement in a variety of marketing and communications roles, including serving as a liaison to the University Marketing and Communications digital team, serving as liaison to alumni officers and unit communications colleagues, participating in the University Marketing and Communications monthly Confab meetings and serving on Advancement and campus-wide cross-functional teams. Brand Ambassador: Ensure that all Advancement communications adhere to University Brand standards including the brand visual guide, website design guide and editorial style guide. Protect brand favorability, especially as it pertains to the use of digital channels.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 5 years of marketing and/or communications experience, specifically leading targeted, integrated, and multi-channel campaigns.
  • Experience in digital marketing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in or with an agency in a marketing or communications capacity.
  • Experience serving in a comprehensive fundraising campaign.
  • Experience in higher education and/or similarly complex non-profit environment.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
