Director for Childhood Development and Literacy Center
The Spadoni College of Education at Coastal Carolina University is seeking a qualified Director with proven ability in program development for our new early childhood development center set to open in August 2018. The Center Director serves as the key contact for Center parents, staff and other stakeholders and is responsible for providing consistent, high quality developmentally appropriate early childhood care, curriculum, and supervision. The Center Director is responsible for creating a welcoming, healthy, and supportive learning environment for parents and the children, along with modeling and reinforcing a high performing culture where staff can do their best work. The Director supervises all Center specific administration and manages the daily Center staffing and operations with a clear understanding of licensing guidelines, NAEYC guidelines, and University policies and procedures, and is directly responsible for Center health and safety compliance and risk management. Duties included but are not limited to: planning, coordinating and supervising day to day operations of the center to ensure safety and well- being of children as well as compliance with policies, procedures and regulations; instructing and training teaching staff in proper methods and procedures, conducting performance evaluations and providing necessary feedback; maintaining awareness of new and current regulations regarding Pre-School children, education and operations; preparing and maintaining or directing preparation of attendance, activity, planning, accounting and personnel reports and records for state officials and agencies; obtaining NAEYC accreditation; attending relevant continuing education classes, workshops and seminars in accordance with State of South Carolina and NAEYC guidelines for childhood education professionals, including a yearly seminar on EpiPen training; ensuring all Pre-School staff achieve and maintain required CEU’s; completing and maintaining all required paperwork and record keeping on a timely basis; maintaining various budgetary responsibilities as deemed necessary; and developing and encouraging positive relationships and communications with parents and students.
Qualifications: Minimum of Masters in Early Childhood Education or Child Development is required. Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Early Childhood Education or Child Development is preferred. Must meet all State of South Carolina conditions for Early Childhood educational requirements. Minimum 3-5 years of documented experience as Director or Assistant Director at Early Childhood or Pre-School level. Experience must be with unrelated children of same age(s) and developmental stages that are to be served in this program. Thorough knowledge of South Carolina State and NAEYC regulations specific to pre-school children. Proven ability to initiate and implement age appropriate programs and curriculum. Possess excellent written and verbal skills with ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, staff and visitors. Proficiency in computer usage with ability to learn new programs quickly.
