Job Summary

This faculty member teaches TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) courses in the School of Education within the College and be available to teach assigned classes at various campus locations. This is a full-time Faculty (FAC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides classroom instruction
  • Ensures curricular alignment with state and national standards
  • Supervises field experiences and Service learning
  • Serves as a resource for faculty members and other program areas
  • Recruits and advises teacher education students
  • Builds partnerships and collaborates with local schools
  • Participates in grant writing and acquisition of external funding for the School of Education
  • Participates in recruiting, advising, and retaining School of Education students
  • Teaches day, evening, and weekend classes as needed
  • Evaluates students and performs career and academic advising
  • Plans and organizes instructional materials to meet course objectives
  • Participates in a variety of Departmental, Campus and College-wide programs, activities and committees and develops curricula
  • Prepares and submits student information to Department Chairperson
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Doctorate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Bilingual Education; or Master's Degree in Education with 18 graduate semester hours in TESOL or Bilingual Education; and State of Florida requirements for teacher preparation faculty must be met
  • All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Verification of Clinical Supervison training
  • Experience in college teaching and K-12 classroom teaching, including TESOL or equivalent required; at least three (3) years of experience
  • Classroom experience in a setting corresponding to the courses to be taught (i.e. ECE-birth to grade 3; ESE-exceptional classrooms; Science Education- grades 6-12 science classes)
  • Recency experience as described by Rule 6-A-4.006 FAC, to include at least three days each semester on P-12 setting
  • Familiarity with and use of collaborative learning techniques and student-centered methods of instruction
  • Ability to function well in a technological environment and willing to use technological tools in instruction
  • Possess excellent communication skills and ablity to communicate effectively with students with a wide range of skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff and the community
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
  • Doctoral Stipend awarded in addition to base salary, as applicable
  • Start date for this Faculty position is scheduled for the beginning of Fall Semester 2018


  • Doctorate preferred
  • Concentration in reading highly desired
  • Primary consideration will be given to candidates with multi-categorical expertise
  • Previous curriculum development and recruitment experience a plus
