The Academic Resource Center (ARC) in the Division of Undergraduate Education seeks an Assistant Coordinator, Supplemental Instruction. The Supplemental Instruction (SI) program provides peer-led study sessions for students who want to improve their academic performance, while attending to the campus learning community programs and courses known to provide an academic challenge. The Assistant Coordinator develops and implements training programs to prepare Academic Student Employees (ASE) for their roles as SI Leaders. The Assistant Coordinator aids in the supervision of a team of ASEs, and reports to the Coordinator, Supplemental Instruction. The ARC provides student academic support programs and services including supplemental instruction, tutoring assistance, peer mentorship, study skills instruction, summer bridge, and intervention programs for students at-risk or in academic difficulty. The department has 17 FTE professional staff and over 200 student staff. Minimum Requirements: Ability to communicate information in small and large group settings.
Multicultural competencies; knowledge and experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations.
Skills in judgment and decision-making.
Proficient computer skills including databases, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based systems.
Oral and written communication skills; interpersonal and presentation skills.
Knowledge of how learning skills issues apply to a research institution.
Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note taking, test taking, time management, and goal setting.
Develops knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural issues in applying academic support for students.
Develops knowledge of current and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline specific; student-population specific).
Knowledge of learning theories and training models.
Problem solving skills.


Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of current distance technology and other techniques for efficient delivery of student academic support services.

Demonstrated experience with Supplemental Instruction or similar program.

Demonstrated knowledge of student academic support tracking software (e.g. Accu Track or Tutor Track)

Experience developing and implementing student academic support programs in a major 4 year research university.

Skill in preparing comprehensive and in depth analysis of complex, sensitive, and multi-faceted issues, particularly under time constraints.

Knowledge of college and university student transition and student success.

Demonstrated experience with UC online Student Information System (SIS+) and FERPA rules and regulations on confidentiality.

Knowledge of UC policies and procedures concerning student academic progress towards a degree.

Earned Bachelor's Degree.
