UC Riverside's Gift Planning Office is responsible for charitable gift planning, deferred giving, trusts, real estate gifts and estate distributions. Under the general direction of the Sr. Director of Development for Gift Planning, the Director of Gift Planning is responsible for planning, managing and implementing strategies and tactics for planned giving donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. The position coordinates with and supports college -based planned giving efforts. Position requires specialized training and knowledge for financial, gift and estate planning, and current knowledge of tax legislation and changes that affect the gift planning process. Responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating a comprehensive gift planning marketing campaign under the supervision of the Sr. Director. This is a two-year, renewable contract position which includes the same benefits afforded career employees. Applications without a cover letter and completed application will not be considered.
Knowledge of estate planning, including wills, trusts, and estate gift laws. General knowledge of various types of charitable gifts including in-kind gifts, gifts of securities, planned giving vehicles and gifts of real property.
Strong sense of ethical conduct that will inspire confidence and motivation with the proven ability to persuade colleagues and prospects.
Advanced oral and interpersonal communication skills, with an emphasis on tact, diplomacy, flexibility, professionalism and discretion in order to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Advanced skill in making persuasive and compelling presentations of campus goals/objectives and securing gifts.
Demonstrated success at meeting predetermined goals and objectives through effective program/project planning, organization, execution and evaluation.
Ability to work effectively with deans and directors, academic and University leaders and volunteers to achieve fundraising goals.
Proven success at fundraising by developing and implementing strategic plans that incorporate a concise definition of goals, targeted audiences, and strategies in-line with institution goals and closing planned gifts, both local and national.
Experience with exporting/importing data from or to different software applications; and operating knowledge of Internet for data gathering purposes.
Advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.
Advanced working knowledge of all aspects of the location, including current issues of concern for both the campus and/or throughout higher education/healthcare generally. Advanced working of the location, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements and infrastructure.
Advanced knowledge of fundraising, donor relations and public relations concepts, principles, procedures and techniques.
Advanced organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills, including skill in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/avoidance/resolution, and strong project management skills.
Very strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.
Advanced written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen, to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies. Ability to make persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for a location in order to secure gifts.
Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, etc.
Experience using Raiser's Edge or other CRM databases. Gift Planning software such as PG Calc or Crescendo preferred
Experience supporting capital or comprehensive campaigns in higher education.
Ability to work effectively with parent programs and faculty.
