Faculty Positions in Economics and Management - International Program at SNU, Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship, Fort Hays State University
POSITION DESCRIPTION: We anticipate three or more full-time non-tenure track faculty positions on annual international assignment for the Fort Hays State University (FHSU) W.R. and Yvonne Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship (RCOBE), stationed at Shenyang Normal University (www.synu.edu.cn/synuen/p1.html) in Liaoning Province, China. Appoints may be renewed based on evaluations of the faculty performance and program continuity.
Shenyang Normal University (SNU), a public university located in Shenyang, Liaoning, China, partnered with FHSU in 2003 to offer dual degrees in its College of International Business (CIB). CIB is responsible for about half of the foreign teaching staff at the University. The students take courses from FHSU that are delivered by FHSU faculty in a face-to-face environment. FHSU does not have satellite campuses in China; rather it operates through partnership agreements to deliver courses leading to dual bachelor degrees. The faculty with appropriate education and experience live and teach on the campuses of our partner institutions in China. Currently, RCOBE offers Bachelor of Business Administration degree programs at SNU.
RCOBE international faculty members report to the FHSU Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship’s International Program Coordinator.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An MBA degree or a closely related Master’s degree with 18 or more graduate credit hours in management, economics, or closely related areas. Master’s degree holders should have significant and substantial professional business experience. Selected candidates should meet HLC’s minimum requirements to be qualified as an academic.
The successful candidate must be a U.S. citizen or be eligible for U.S. employment. Additionally, the successful candidate must be able to work legally in China by obtaining a work permit in the Liaoning Province of China. Currently, among other things, a minimum of two years of documented full-time teaching experience is compulsory for visa approval.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: An earned doctoral degree in related fields. Exceptional ABD candidates may be considered as well.
Prior experience working abroad and teaching in the ESL / EFL environment is preferred. Strong teaching, communication, and cross-cultural skills will be valuable for this position. Experience with online instructional delivery and course design (Blackboard) is also preferred.
Applicants must demonstrate an ability to communicate and interact well with students from other cultures, FHSU faculty members, FHSU administrators, and the administrators at our Chinese partner universities.
RANK: Typically, appointments will be at the Assistant Professor rank. However, a higher rank could be negotiated based on academic qualifications and professional experience.

We may add or remove courses or programs from time to time and we expect our faculty members to be flexible enough to adapt to such changes.
Typically, a faculty member will teach four courses a semester and should expect to have at least some new course preparations every year. All instruction, course deliverables, and other work is conducted in English, so familiarity with the Chinese language is not required. If need arises, faculty will be required to teach domestic distance learning courses in the US instead of courses taught in China. Likewise, service responsibilities may be added to ensure workloads of four courses per semester for all faculty members.
The successful candidate(s) will exhibit a scholarly interest and a commitment to remain active in a scholarly manner throughout their career. The College recognizes scholarship of discovery, integration, application, and pedagogy. Joint publications are accepted and encouraged – particularly in collaboration with students. Service to the University, College, department, the region, and/or profession is expected as well.
