Job Duties: The individual in this position functions in a highly technical capacity and is responsible for the development of long-term plans impacting the university IT network and dependent services. The work is highly analytical and the position is responsible for the design and diagnostics of network and network related issues that is inclusive of supporting the overall management and functionality of enterprise-class highly-complex and critical applications. This individual is required to have in-depth technical knowledge and design experience in the following core areas of responsibility: enterprise-level network services, storage area networks, firewall and VPN systems, intrusion detection and prevention systems, load balancing systems, network access control systems, and wireless networking, that affect or influence the enterprise network infrastructure. The employee in this position is a highly skilled technical resource for other teams assisting with highly-complex requirements through analysis and evaluation. This includes matrix managing resources and managing projects that have a high impact and complexity utilizing state of the art technologies that are broad in scale covering multiple technologies. The position will be responsible for network automation and programmability initiatives. In addition to matrix managing university employees and vendors, the individual in this position may also organize and coordinate the day-to-day work of student workers. The main responsibilities of this position are to provide research, design, development, deployment, automation, disaster recovery, and troubleshooting of various enterprise-level network services, including, but not limited to: enterprise-level network routing and switching, wireless, storage area networks, firewall and VPN systems, intrusion detection and prevention systems, load balancing systems, network access control systems, and enterprise-level network systems or services that affect or influence the enterprise network infrastructure. This positions job function will include network automation and programing. This position will assist other support teams and university users with resolving difficult network and application data transport problems and will also be responsible for gathering customer and vendor requirements, to develop network designs that are in keeping with university standards and goals. This position will perform technical assistance in the resolution of service incidents and service requests and will focus on complex multi-area issues as they relate to network infrastructure and security services. The employee must demonstrate the ability to quickly assess faults and take corrective action in a mission critical environment. The position also requires the ability to fully integrate multiple networking technologies into an enterprise class networking environment with the proven ability to work under pressure. The employee in this position is responsible for forming and maintaining strategic technology contacts and partnerships with university departments, key technology suppliers, vendors and contractors. This position is responsible for the planning, cost containment, configuration, optimization, maintenance, security, and implementation of current and emerging technologies. This employee may also responsible for negotiating, procuring, and maintaining various support agreements and contracts.
