Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:
The mission of the Office of Financial Aid is to ensure that no student who can benefit from a Fayetteville State University education be denied that opportunity due to insufficient finances. The Office of Financial Aid administers a comprehensive array of programs (need and merit-based) to over 6,000 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students annually, committing and disbursing over $70 million dollars per year. In addition to administering all federal, state and institutional financial aid funds for Fayetteville State University undergraduates, graduate students and doctoral students, the Office is responsible for receiving and monitoring all Title IV, state and institutional resources in a fiduciary manner. Additionally, this position determines eligibility to ensure compliance on the Federal, State and Institutional levels.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Senior Assistant Director position requires extensive and successful professional experience in the field of student financial aid and/or higher education administration; experience that permits candidate to establish, interpret and execute federal, state and institutional regulations and policies. Additionally, the Senior Assistant Director train and manage other skilled professional staff members. The Senior Assistant Director assumes primary responsibility for the improvement of financial aid and student information systems applications. The Senior Assistant Director share in all research and policy analysis functions within the Office, and interpret the needs of students to other University administrators who plan enrollments or establish tuition and academic policy.
The Senior Assistant Director's position is a professional role that commits University resources, interprets and is guided by the University's mission and policies and enhances the academic and intellectual life of the University. The Senior Assistant Director is expected to perform at the highest level of professional service and to assure that staff under one's supervision provides consistent and accurate financial aid work and advice to one's student and parent customers.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Senior Assistant Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the major operations to include but not limited to supervising, information technology support, application processing, verification, counseling, advising and financial aid initiatives of the Office of Financial Aid. The Office of Financial Aid at FSU administers a comprehensive array of programs to more than 6000 undergraduate and graduate students committing and disbursing in excess of 60 million dollars per year.
The position will implement and monitor a Standard Operation Procedure for each function of operations to include but not limited to Pell, reconciliation and importing and exporting to the US Department of Education to ensure a seamless delivery of federal processing and applications. Additionally, supervision of an Administrative Support Specialist staff to ensure administrative duties are carried out daily. Oversee and coordinate duties for the Technology Support analyst and oversee development and implementation of a seamless student financial aid module to include but not limited to financial aid module management in BANNER, Web Focus and Workflow.
Description of Work Continued:
This position will be responsible for assuring the Financial Aid office is in compliance with all Title IV funding. Implements and oversees a comprehensive array of customer service initiatives and programs that support the unit's mission and the university's vision and values. Supervise staff that has areas of responsibility within the scope of this position's leadership role in the office and working with staff in developing communication strategies to meet the needs of the students and parents. Serves on University committees to inform campus policy development.
The Senior Assistant Director of Financial Aid Serves as a senior level administrator in carrying out the duties governed by federal, state and institutional policies.
The Senior Assistant Director independently implements the vision of the Director of Financial Aid through office procedures and operations. Additionally, the Senior Assistant Director commits the Office of Financial Aid to a course of action when called upon in the absence of or at the direction of the Director and/or Associate Director. They share responsibility for communicating with external agencies including state and federal auditors, and numerous campus administrators and faculty.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with a combination of experience in Student Personnel Services, Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Enrollment Management, Accounting, Leadership or Business Administration and a minimum of 5 years' experience in Financial Aid Administration in higher education and superior written and oral communication skills are required. Additionally, evidence of familiarity with university academic policies, strong interpersonal and customer service skills and demonstration of superior management skills are a must.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of financial aid, federal and state policies and procedures; evidence of attention to detail; effective listening, oral and written communication skills, ability to conduct presentations to large and small groups; appropriate counseling skills; experience in making independent decisions, Integrity and superb work ethic.
The position requires an individual with a good eye for detail and exceptional organizational and time management skills. In addition, strong analytical skills are required for the financial aid research and data integrity components of the position.
Master's degree, demonstrated leadership ability, record of team building, problem solving and integrity in financial aid management and familiarity with the Banner database management systems are highly desirable.
