Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Department:
This is a full-time tenure track position pending funding. Otherwise the contract will be a one-year contract until funding is available.
The Department of Middle Grades, Secondary and Specialized Subjects department is committed to providing academic quality in educator preparation and support services leading to candidate degree attainment and skill development in the areas of: (a) teaching academic content using current technology, (b) developing content connections within diverse learning environments, © reflecting on teacher beliefs and assumptions, and (d) engaging in continuous professional development. The MSSS department is further committed to strengthening faculty involvement in research, professional development and community engagement to enhance candidate and P-12 student outcomes and teacher quality in response to 21st Century, southeastern region of North Carolina communities and global expectations.
Description of Work Continued:
Position Primary Duties:
Will teach special education undergraduate and graduate courses in the special education program; conduct research, develop grant proposals, write articles for publication, and engage in other scholarly activities; serve the department, school, university, and community in various capacities; supervise/mentor pre-service and in-service special educators; participate in department and School of Education meetings and serve on select and related committees; serve as advisor to students who pursue MAT, MEd or a special education concentration as assigned by the chairperson. The successful candidate will start work in July 2018.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
An earned Doctorate in Special Education from an accredited university or a Ph.D./Ed.D. in a related field with a Master's Degree in Special Education is required. ABDs may apply, but will be considered for an instructor position.

The selected candidate must:
Have excellent writing, research, communication, analytical, and problem solving skills, with an ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students across and within units
Have a record of successful work with diverse populations of students and educators
Support integration of research-based methods, materials, and instructional practices and strategies that have been proven to increase student achievement
Demonstrate high levels of integrity and commitment to the mission of FSU and the philosophical underpinnings of the education programs at the University
Have thorough knowledge of effective practices in higher education for enhancing and assessing student learning
Have the ability to guide students in applying effective instructional and assessment strategies in their classes
Have evident of effective teaching experience at the middle school or high school level
-Demonstrate a record of teaching, scholarship/research, and service
-Show evidence of excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
