Staff Psychiatrist

Job description

Hamilton is a national leader in teaching students to write effectively, learn from each other and think for themselves. Founded in 1793 as the Hamilton-Oneida Academy; chartered in 1812 as Hamilton College, Hamilton is the third oldest college established in New York State. Our mission is to provide an educational experience that emphasizes academic excellence and the development of students as human beings, as we prepare them to make choices and accept the responsibilities of citizenship in a democratic world of intellect and diversity.

Position Summary:

The Counseling Center staff is searching for a new colleague to be part of our Center. We are looking for a psychiatrist who would provide medication management and case consultation in an ongoing care model with a population of undergraduate students at a highly selective liberal arts College. This person would be a part of a close-knit team of psychologists who are serious about their work but who value taking one’s self lightly and having fun and approaching the work in ways that reflect the complexity of being human. Other responsibilities would include participating in an after hours on-call rotation, maintaining a small clinical caseload (including individual clients and groups) outside of medication management, attending multi-disciplinary case conferences and staff meetings, and occasional outreach commitments within the campus community that may necessitate being on campus in the evening or over the weekend. This is a full-time, 10 month position.

Minimum Qualifications:

A doctoral degree in medicine is required. Accredited residency in psychiatry, board certification or board eligibility, and NYS medical license required before start date.

Desired Qualifications:

Experience working in a university counseling center and/or with college students is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience working with a wide array of presenting problems and an affinity for working in a multidisciplinary team is favored. Candidates who have experience in providing individual and group therapy will be given preference. Applicants who are from under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Application Instructions:

Please submit cover letter, resume and contact information for three professional references via Consideration of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.  The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2018.
