Associate Dean, College of Science and Mathematics

General Summary of Responsibilities: The new College of Science and Mathematics will consist of five academic departments including: the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics, Astronomy, Geosciences (PAG). Duties include: Assist with students' needs on walk-in basis; help field phone calls and emails from students and parents; assist as needed in evaluating course substitutions, waivers, petitions to register for more than 19 hours, transient permission forms, and change of grade forms; assist in grade appeals; meet with students on suspension as needed. Other duties include: Review course enrollment numbers, chair COSM Curriculum Sub-Committee and COSM Assessment Committee; assist in representing COSM at Open House and recruiting events off campus; fill in for dean when dean is unavailable. Required Qualifications: *An earned doctorate from an accredited university in a field represented in the college; *An academic record of achievement in teaching, scholarship, and service appropriate for appointment in a VSU academic department at the rank of associate or full professor with tenure; *A record of progressively responsible and relevant leadership experience in higher education; *Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills; *A commitment to shared governance and a consultative leadership style. *Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship *Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
