Academic Affairs Director

Job description

Reporting to the Associate Provost, the Academic Affairs Director will be responsible for the administrative management of a curricular strategy that advances and supports Hunter College's mission and strategic initiatives. As a key member of the Provost's management team, the Director will collaborate with departments, centers, schools, and Hunter College Senate curriculum committees on the development of academic curricula and programs that appropriately reflect institutional and programmatic learning outcomes. The position will entail significant interaction, in a consultative role, with other campus-based offices, including Institutional Research, Assessment, IT, the Office of the Registrar, and Advising.

The Academic Affairs Director will:

  • Collaborate with appropriate units of the College on the development of strategic plans, academic program proposals and curricular reports, as well as implement initiatives to enhance strategic planning work
  • Be instrumental in curriculum development for Hunter's programs and centers, such as the Thomas Hunter Honors Program and the Roosevelt House Public Policy Center
  • Provide oversight to academic programs, departments and other units for the annual internal reporting process, as well as external reviews by accrediting bodies
  • Support program self-studies and other accreditation report writing and development
  • Exercise full administrative authority over the updating, publication and distribution of the Hunter College catalog, ensuring accurate academic program information while taking into consideration both Senate actions on curriculum and other college and university governance policies
  • Review departmental major course/credit requirements to ensure compliance with CUNY curricular bylaws
  • Work closely with the Registrar and other College offices to ensure effective implementation of curricular actions, and resolve issues as they arise
  • Remain current in the field of curriculum development and evaluation, and teaching methodologies

Candidates must have strong curriculum-related experience, as well as experience with campus-based shared governance, accreditation, program review, catalog structure and course management systems. In addition, candidates will need strong written, verbal and web-based communication skills to facilitate the flow of accurate academic information.

Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required. Candidates with a terminal degree preferred.

Directs College activities and operations related to Academic matters to support academic policy and student learning strategies.
  • Designs, implements and monitors an array of academic initiatives, programs, priorities, and functions
  • Develops strategic plans, academic program proposals, and curricular reports
  • Assesses outcomes to improve services and support student success
  • Creates and oversees academic support initiatives
  • Administers College articulation efforts
  • Ensures compliance with accreditation standards and reporting requirements
  • Liaisons with faculty and professional staff in departments and offices across the College
  • Manages operational and program budgets; manages, trains, and develops staff
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
