RESEARCH SPECIALIST A
Duties: In a single-cell focused Genomics laboratory, that studies cell differentiation and cell diversity, in the Department of Biology, School of Arts and Sciences, University of Pennsylvania, the Research Specialist will conduct research under supervision of the principal investigator. The applicant will be expected to design and conduct molecular biology experiments, gather data from experiments, analyze data from experiments, present data analysis in lab meetings from experiments. In support of experiments the applicant will be required to handle animal cells, maintain cell cultures, reagents and supplies. The applicant will also be expected to prepare manuscripts in support of publications and grant proposal submissions which requires written analysis and discussion of experiment results.
Qualifications: Qualified candidates should have a B.S. in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or other related fields, and 0-1 years working experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.; advanced degree and a minimum of 1-2 years of experience strongly preferred. Previous experience in molecular biology research is also preferred. The candidate must be self-motivated, reliable, responsible, and comfortable with cell-based research methods. Good organization and communication skills are required as well as adherence to correct procedures, complex protocols, and safety guidelines. The candidate is expected to have experience in or demonstrate a strong desire to learn about genomics and next-generation RNA sequencing.
