Staff Research Associate I

The incumbent will serve as a technician in support of a Principal Investigator whose research focuses on the pathogenesis and early detection of insulin-dependent diabetes, the functioning of the insulin-producing pancreatic islets and the role of synaptic proteins in the beta cells. Under supervision will perform cell/ tissue culture and plasmid preparation. May learn to perform metabolic tests, such as glucose tolerance, colony maintenance, intravenous injections and pancreatic islet isolation. Will assist with routine laboratory maintenance and will ensure compliance with UCI safety regulations. Will document experiments and results in well-organized notebooks. Will assume responsibilities for lab purchasing and maintenance issues. Will ensure that supplies are ordered in a timely fashion and purchases are properly recorded.

Salary: Hourly $20.64 - $21.99
Total Hours: 8-5, M-F
