Essential functions of this position:
The primary purpose of the Fire Alarm and Security technician is to test and maintain the University’s fire and security systems. This includes replacing and modifying existing systems and review of plans and specification for new and/or buildings to be renovated.

N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Associate’s degree in electronics; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Journey level knowledge of microprocessor based fire and security systems and electronic clock systems and practices for repair and installation of these systems
Ability to maintain accurate records
Ability to design, install and repair
Ability to plan work operations, follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with department heads and other trade and contract workers
Ability to use computers, IPads, IPhone, for timekeeping, communication, data entry and work order management
Ability to perform routine fire sprinkler maintenance duties as listed under the North Carolina Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician license. Examples of such duties include testing of water flow and tamper switches on wet and dry sprinkler systems and the testing of fire pumps

Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Completion of high school and at least 2 years performing journey level tasks associated with fire and security systems

Certifications or licensure required to perform the essential functions of the position:
North Carolina driver’s license
Candidate will be required to apply for and obtain the Fire Sprinkler Maintenance Technician license after 12 months employment with UNCW

Recruitment Range: $37,196 - $40,000
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 68
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
Months Per Year: 12 Months
Work Days: Monday - Friday
Work Hours: 7:00AM - 4:00PM subject to call-back and emergencies
