Assistant Professor of English/English Education
The Department of English and Philosophy at Murray State University seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor for a position created especially to teach in our new Doctor of Arts program in English Pedagogy and Technology. The new hire should bring a special emphasis on teaching English in middle and/or secondary schools.
Qualifications: Doctorate in English, English/Literacy Education, or related field. Minimum of 18 graduate hours in English. Evidence of strong teaching. Evidence of strong potential for research and publication. Ability and willingness to teach through diverse modes (evening, traditional, online, hybrid, weekender).
Responsibilities: Cooperate with program faculty to design and implement instruction suited to a broad range of master’s and doctoral students. Teach graduate courses in English pedagogy, including courses on reflective methods, curriculum, assessment, and instructional technology. Teach courses in content area literacy methodology. Teach other courses according to departmental needs. Work across disciplines in the area of content literacy. Work with graduate students on research and capstone experiences. Maintain an active agenda of scholarly research in the field. Pursue grants and other extramural funding. Engage in institutional and professional service.
Preferred: K-12 teaching certification. National Board Certification. Research or teaching ability in instructional technology and/or digital literacies. Experience teaching. Reading/English/Language Arts in secondary or middle schools. Experience in mentoring and/or supervising student-teachers. Evidence of potential for successful grant writing.
