Job Summary/Description

The Department of Security Studies and Criminal Justice seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in a Border and Homeland Security program. The program currently offers fully on-line undergraduate and graduate courses and will eventually include traditional on-campus courses as well. The program offers courses over a wide-ranging set of topics applicable to the field of Homeland Security with particular emphasis on subjects of interest to Border Security professionals

Typical Duties/Job Duties

The position requires developing and teaching on-line undergraduate and graduate courses to a diverse group of students. Teaching duties may also require teaching some traditional face-to-face courses as well. Other duties include the customary scholarly and service activities associated with the tenure track position. These include advising students, committee work, and publications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Demonstrated experience teaching on-line courses utilizing Blackboard as the LMS platform is preferred. Experience teaching at a four-year college or university also preferred. Areas of specialization are open, but the successful candidate will be teaching primarily in the new programs in border security, so expertise in subjects related to this field is essential. Ability to relate well with students, university staff, faculty and with working homeland security practitioners.

Minimum Qualifications

A PhD in Criminal Justice or related field. ABD will be considered but at the rank of lecturer until completion of the doctorate.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD with university level teaching experience and/or professional experience in the border or homeland security field. Experience with Geographical Information Systems
