Posting Information: The primary role of the Counselor is to provide direct clinical services to students. These services include individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, clinical consultations, assessment, and outreach programming. The responsibilities for the counselor in residence position include providing individual (short-term) and group psychotherapy, diagnosis, and referral to appropriate resources, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, and after-hours on call service primarily to residential students at WCU. Furthermore, this individual will be a liaison with the three Residential Case Managers and will provide training to Residential Living staff on matters relating to mental health. The position consists of living on campus and providing some after-hours services to students. Necessary supervision for licensure will be provided by an appropriately credentialed CAPS' staff member.
Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: An earned Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work and be eligible for application for licensure at the Master's lever OR the candidate must have earned a doctoral degree in Psychology and be eligible for application for licensure for a psychologist. The candidate must have at least one year of experience in working with the college population and must have experience developing and providing outreach programming.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate should have experience providing emergency services, particularly to residential students. We seek candidates that can demonstrate their experiences in providing culturally sensitive services to students, faculty and staff.
