Duties & Responsibilities
Harvard Kennedy School is launching a new project initiative that will offer online courses for mid-career professionals. This set of offerings will expand the reach of HKS knowledge, ideas, skills, and practices into the world and enable working professionals to become better equipped to advance the public good as leaders.

As part of this work, we are looking for a creative, solutions-oriented team player to fill the role of online learning technologist. This position will be a member of a matrix team in the academic dean's office and report in to the director of educational technology.

This position is fully benefits eligible term appointment for two years from date of hire, with a strong possibility of renewal.

Position responsibilities:
  • Serve as technical lead for the project.
  • Support technology for the online courses, the online community, the virtual storefront.
  • Research, evaluate, deploy, and support tools based on project and course requirements.
  • Integrate third-party pedagogical and administrative tools into the core platform (Canvas LMS), including those that use LTI and API frameworks.
  • Coordinate, oversee, and at times participate in quality assurance (QA) testing.
  • Compile statistical reports and other metrics.
  • Monitor and communicate with project manager about goals, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Communicate and coordinate with technologists outside the matrix team (e.g., other HKS technologists, Harvard University IT [HUIT], contractors, vendors).
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of three years related professional experience (e.g., instructional technologist)
  • Experience with the support of learning management systems and / or related teaching and learning technologies
  • Experience working in a college/university setting

Additional Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g., education, instructional design, technology in education)
  • Must be able to consult with stakeholders (e.g., faculty, learning designers) on requirements then research, evaluate, and deploy new technologies quickly
  • Blended, online, and/ or massive open online course (MOOC) learning knowledge and experience
  • Possess understanding of and appreciation for multiple dimensions (e.g., IT security, data dependencies, user experience) that must be considered when evaluating potential technical solutions
  • Experience with learning analytics, including data visualization tools
  • Familiarity with adaptive / personalized learning tools
  • Formal or informal teaching, training, and / or instructional design experience
  • Ability to work with limited supervision in a fast-paced, ever-changing team environment
  • Strong relationship management, written and verbal communication skills, presentation skills, and project management skills
