Educational and Experience Requirement

High School graduate or G.E.D equivalent. One year relevant clerical experience or experience in a related field. Applicants must be a member of the Association of Orientation, Transition, and Retention in Higher Education (formally known as NODA) to be considered for this internship opportunity. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.

Nature & Purpose of Position

Performs advanced clerical duties for the Accepted Students and Bearkat Orientation Programs.

Primary Responsibilities

Assists with problem solving general questions and concerns of prospective students and their guests as they transition to Sam Houston State University. Generates weekly reports for Bearkat Orientation for attendance records, name tags, college distribution lists and additional external office requests. Performs advanced clerical functions to include data and document processing and provides general customer service. Types letters, memorandums, reports and other materials. Performs data entry and verifies files. Facilitates evening programming for students attending orientation that focus on social issues and diversity. Performs receptionist duties, directs phones and walk-in customers and schedules appointments. Receives and distributes mail. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Other Specifications

Requires basic knowledge of general clerical functions. May require the ability to perform wordprocessing. Requires accuracy in finding files, entering facts or figures, and operation of office equipment. Attention and care is required in the performance of duties to prevent injury to self and others.

Required to live in assigned dorm for duration of internship.
