The Associate Director, Career Exploration & Success (CCES) & Sr. Liaison to the College of Arts & Science serves as the lead on career development strategy and implementation within the College of Arts and Science (CAS). The position leads CAS career development efforts in five major areas: 1) development and coordination of advising services and programs, 2) employer relations and internship development, 3) faculty/classroom partnership and strategy 4) completion of career advising, programming and assessment appointments, and 5) direct supervision Assistant Directors dedicated to CAS. The Associate Director provides career development to students in University Studies as well as other majors and is particularly knowledgeable in a) helping students explore career options through multiple methods and b) understanding the relationship between retention/persistence research comparative to the exploratory student. This position is a member of the Career Development sub-team within CCES and is dedicated to expanding Miami’s Career Community especially known for innovative career programming. The role consistently promotes the value of a liberal arts education to our various constituents including students, employers, and parents. Previous success in assisting students from disciplines without a direct career pathway in identifying potential careers is a core competency. The successful candidate must have experience in developing strong partnerships and collaborations with faculty, supervising/mentoring professional career advisors, and using data to inform strategic decision-making. Certifications in career assessments such as the Myers-Briggs and Strong Interest Inventory are highly preferred.
Duties/Physical Demands: In collaboration with College Arts and Science (CAS), oversee the development and execution of career development strategy including employer and faculty development and relations, career advising, programs, and services to students in CAS, especially University Studies majors, based on institutional, divisional, and departmental priorities. (25%)
Supervise and mentor other Assistant Directors who liaison with CAS. Provide performance feedback, establish priorities, and ensure professional development. Provide overall coordinated vision and support across the CAS advising team so as to ensure the needs of CAS students are met. (15%)
Provide career coaching and assessments to designated students in CAS including students in University Studies who are deciding on careers. Oversee CCES career assessment policies, procedures and training for career coaching staff. Understanding that exploratory students have a higher risk for leaving college, serve as an expert on retention/persistence as it relates to career decision-making. (15%)
Support programming and outreach to students including under-served student populations and in collaboration with Career Center staff focused on this initiative. Recruit members of the Miami Career Community (employers, alumni, parents, etc.) to participate in career development programming.(15%)
Teach first-year and/or career development courses as needed. Help develop curriculum, collaborate and work to integrate career exploration into the first-year experience in collaboration with CCES and relevant Student Affairs offices and the Student Success Center.(10%)
Leverage data and develop and utilize assessment to create a programming plan that not only meets student career development needs but also provides opportunities for students to explore industry clusters. Ensure that marketing efforts for programs are carried out through collaborations with CCES staff.(10%)
Assist in the coordination of office-wide special events, programs, workshops, and career fairs, and other events as needed. Other duties as assigned. (10%)
- Master’s degree in counseling, human resources, higher education administration or a related field required by agreed upon start date.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in counseling, human resources, higher education administration or a related field.
- Strong teamwork, supervisory and communication skills.
- Ability to promote the value of a liberal arts education and partner with faculty.
- Ability to use data to inform decision-making.
