JOB DESCRIPTION

The Graduate Program in Landscape Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin is searching for a creative and accomplished designer who will bring excellence in teaching and in research to the program and to the School of Architecture. The successful candidate will bring additional expertise in areas that will enhance the program's focus on the design of urban and urbanizing landscapes. The position will begin in the fall of 2018. The Graduate Program in Landscape Architecture has particularly strong affiliations with the Graduate Program in Urban Design and with the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, which operates as part of the School of Architecture. The successful candidate will have the ability to assume a leadership role in helping to shape the future direction of the program and the profession.

BACKGROUND

The University of Texas at Austin is one of the largest and most highly regarded public universities in the United States. The School of Architecture offers professionally accredited degree and post-professional degree programs in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, Community and Regional Planning, and Interior Design. Post-professional and research degree programs are also offered in Sustainable Design, Urban Design, Historic Preservation, and Architectural History. The School is organized to support interdisciplinary education and has established strong collaborations and new initiatives that engage planning and design issues in Mexico and Latin America. It has recently undertaken a new initiative on Race, Gender, and the Built Environment to advance scholarship and teaching on topics related to equity in American urban areas. The Graduate Program in Landscape Architecture shares in the interdisciplinary approaches of the School, and its mission is to create and share knowledge for advancing the profession of landscape architecture as a means to help individuals, communities, and societies meet their fundamental health, safety, and welfare needs and achieve their cultural aspirations. The faculty also advises doctoral students through the Community and Regional Planning program and the Architecture program (which includes tracks in Architectural History, Historic Preservation, and Sustainability). Opportunities exist to engage in sponsored interdisciplinary research through the School of Architecture's Center for Sustainable Development, which coordinates grants and contracts on a range of topics. For additional information about the School of Architecture, its programs, and its people, please visit the website: www.soa.utexas.edu.

The University of Texas at Austin benefits, as does the School of Architecture, from the thriving situation of the city of Austin, which is the 11th most populous city in the US and is rapidly expanding. It is positioned in the growing mega-region of Austin-Dallas-Houston, and partakes of the rich borderland culture between Mexico and the US.
