About the Position

Reporting to the Associate Dean of the College of Humanities and the Arts, the Director of the Student Success Center (SSC) works under general supervision to plan, prioritize, and implement all activities of the Humanities and Arts Student Success Center. The Director supervises a team of professional advisors, student peer advisors, and an administrative assistant who work together to provide direct service to undergraduate students and faculty advisors in the college.

Services include supporting faculty advisors in the nine departments of the College; participating in university-wide student success events and initiatives; evaluating student needs and authorizing services; coordinating and administering programs, events, and projects, including student orientations; articulating the needs of individual students and groups of students to university administrators, faculty and staff; and providing support and assistance to students facing a variety of personal as well as institutional problems, questions and challenges.

As the college’s primary contact for student success concerns, the Director advises students and faculty advisors on complex situations, consults with appropriate offices on campus to develop and recommend courses of action, and implements proposed solutions. The Director works closely with the Associate Dean to develop Center initiatives and methods for tracking student persistence and success in the College, producing regular reports on student success metrics to the College and the Division of Academic Affairs. As the College’s primary liaison to other units providing advising services on campus, the Director ensures that Center services are consistent with university-wide strategic goals related to student persistence and degree completion.
