Position Description: The School of Music at Texas State University invites applicants for a faculty position at the rank of assistant professor or associate professor.
Responsibilities include: Direct Texas State Symphony Orchestra and oversee or conduct the University Orchestra. Actively recruit well-qualified instrumentalists. Direct orchestral ensembles for special events and opera productions. Teach conducting at graduate and undergraduate levels as assigned. Teach other courses as assigned depending on strengths of the candidate. Participate in professional activities as a conductor/performer and/or music scholar. Regularly participate in faculty meetings, committees, and other service activities.
Master of Music.
Record of accomplishment as an orchestral conductor.
Experience in university-level ensemble teaching.
Successful experience in opera conducting.
Appointment at the Associate Professor rank also requires a minimum of 5 years tenure-track teaching experience.
To be eligible for hire at the associate professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the department. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards.
Doctorate in music or equivalent professional experience.
National and/or international exposure as a professional conductor.
