Job Summary


The Part-time Advisor for the Foreign-Trained Professionals (FTP) Program provides targeted advising to career and technical education students with foreign professional credentials.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Provides pre-admissions counseling along with academic and career advisement
  • Assists students by helping them define and clarify their career and academic goals
  • Develops and implements FTP advising protocol with the Office of Prior Learning Assessment
  • Resolves student advisement issues
  • Participates in scheduled training activities and workshops
  • Provides admission, assessment and registration information
  • Participates in recruitment activities
  • Serves on College and campus committees
  • Coordinates with academic and student services offices as necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in related field and three (3) years of related experience
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of academic advising and career development principles and practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility
  • Familiarity with student information system
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with academic departments, faculty, staff, students and local community
  • Effective communication skills both orally and in writing
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective public relations
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse community
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule that may include evening and weekend assignments
