The salary range for this classification is: $4,104 - $6,795 monthly.
The maximum salary budgeted for this position by the department is $6,667 monthly.
Conditions of Employment
Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate is required to complete a background check prior to assuming this position.

Department: University Communications and Public Affairs
The Office of University Communications and Public Affairs builds public understanding, recognition and support for CSU Dominguez Hills by shaping the image and voice of the University through coordinated communications strategies and media relations that position the University as an important urban center for teaching and learning, research, scholarship, creative activity and service. University Communications functions as a full-service creative agency for institutional communications; print, Web, and electronic publications; marketing; and advertising.
Under the general direction of the Director of University Communications and Public Affairs, the Senior Writer/Editor helps to bring the mission of CSUDH and the voices of its faculty, students, alumni and staff to life. The position will play a key role in strategic communications for the university, helping to evolve and refine messaging in line with the university's mission and strategic plan. The position employs expert skill in writing a wide range of communications (web content, news releases, social media posts, feature profiles, marketing and advertising materials, high-level executive correspondences, speeches, and talking points) across print and digital media platforms to create engaging and compelling content that successfully captures the appropriate voice and conveys subject matter expertise. In addition, the position will serve as editor of the CSUDH¿s university magazine.
Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, composition, communications, and/or equivalent experience. Master's degree in English or communications preferred.
Five or more years of professional writing and editing experience, and/or writing for the web. Preferred: two or more years working in higher education communications
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Experienced writer as evidenced by clips or portfolio of past professional work
Excels at adapting copy based on the audience and platform
Expert grammar, editing, and proofreading skills
Communications expert, with knowledge and proficiency in multiple media
Experience in using electronic media tools, such as content management systems
Effective interpersonal communications skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
Ability to juggle multiple assignments under shifting and tight deadlines.
Computer, MAC platform; computer peripherals such as, but not limited to, printers, scanners, monitors, auxiliary equipment, and accessories.
Certification: Valid Drivers License
60% Conceptualize, research, and write compelling and engaging content for a variety of communications, ranging from formal speeches, presentations, talking points and briefings, and case statements to advertising copy and marketing and promotional materials, bylined articles, social media posts, and web content. Ensure writing considers audience, media and successfully captures appropriate voice and tone.
15% Editing ¿ Serve as the lead editor and proofreader of copy for a wide range of print and digital communications that is produced in house and across the university, including but not limited to web page content, magazine and news stories, news releases, marketing and advertising materials, internal communications, speeches and presentations. Establish and ensure adherence of the university's editorial style and voice.
15% Magazine production ¿ Oversee production of university magazine. Serves as the editor of the university magazine: develops and presents recommended content to management for approval, writes selected stories and assigns stories to others
5% Communications Development ¿ Work closely with the communications and marketing teams, key stakeholders, and graphics and web designers on developing and implementing various communications campaigns.
5% Performs other duties as assigned.
