Tenure-Track; Systems Librarian

The University of North Alabama seeks an energetic, innovative, proactive, and service-centric tenure track faculty member to oversee library information and discovery systems, as well as other specialized library systems, in a highly collaborative environment.

The successful candidate will provide broad support, including first-line technical support and day to day administration, for all aspects of library systems, software and technology, such as the integrated library system (all modules), discovery tools, and the institutional repository. Primary duties include management, configuration, maintenance, implementation, and troubleshooting of systems and the library’s website to ensure optimal performance.

The successful candidate will also collaborate to facilitate consistent discovery and access to library resources across all platforms and formats, and will act as primary liaison with technology vendors and the campus IT department. Additionally, the faculty member in this position will provide research and input on new technology systems, software, and equipment to enhance the operation and services of the library.

Faculty librarians at the University of North Alabama work in a highly collegial environment and are expected to take leadership roles within the library and university-wide.  Librarians must demonstrate a commitment to faculty status/rank and engage in an ongoing program of scholarship and professional service adequate to achieve tenure and promotion in a competitive environment.

Minimum qualifications include: MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program, required (Degree must be conferred prior to January, 2018); At least two years of successful library technology experience supporting library software applications - such as ILS, institutional repository, etc. – required.

Desired qualifications include: Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, issues, and trends in library information technology and integrated library management solutions; Experience in multiple computing environments; Superior oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate clearly and knowledgably; Potential to meet faculty tenure and promotion requirements in a competitive environment; Strong service orientation; Familiarity with technology standards and protocols such as Z39.50, XML, OAI/PHM harvesting protocol, HMTL5, JavaScript.
