Essential functions of this position:
The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a research specialist for the McCall lab and a subject matter expert in natural product chemistry: This position partners with the principal investigator on drug discovery and development, bioassay development, and natural product isolation. Conducts grant funded experiments, HPLC purification of compounds and ELISAs; supervises and trains incoming students and technicians; processes data; manages routine laboratory maintenance including organization and cleaning; and responsible for the ordering of lab supplies and balancing of lab budgets.

N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment + 1 year of directly related experience; or equivalent combination of training and/or related experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position:
Must be able to work independently and in collaboration with other lab members to complete experiments
Laboratory experience in both chemical and biological methods
Experience with HPLC and other analytical methods (e.g. LC/MS and NMR)
Experience with high throughput bioassays (e.g. ELISAs)
Ability to analyze, compile, and present numerical data
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Proficiency in written and oral communication skills

Preferred education, professional skills and experience:
Master’s Degree in Chemistry or a related field, with experience in biological techniques
Hybrid scientist with experience in both chemistry and biology
Experience with marine natural product isolation

Recruitment Range: $42,000 - $45,000
NC Salary Grade Equivalency: 70
Hours Per Week: 1.0 (40 hours per week)
Months Per Year: 12 Months
Work Days: Monday - Friday
Work Hours: 8:00AM - 5:00PM
