Department: University Communications and Public Affairs
The Office of University Communications and Public Affairs builds public understanding, recognition and support for CSU Dominguez Hills by shaping the image and voice of the University through coordinated communications strategies and media relations that position the University as an important urban center for teaching and learning, research, scholarship, creative activity and service. University Communications functions as a full-service creative agency for institutional communications; print, Web, and electronic publications; marketing; and advertising.
University Communications & Public Affairs is within the Division of University Advancement, which is charged with developing relationships with external constituencies that will lead to greater human and financial resources for the University.
Under the general direction of the Associate VP of University Communications and Public Affairs, and working closely with individuals and department across the campus, the Web Content Creator develops, plans, and executes engaging and effective content that enhances the universitys presence on the web and supports to meet the universitys strategic long term goals to recruit quality students and promote the universitys academic excellence, accomplishments, and distinctiveness. Responsibilities include researching, writing, editing, and posting content that promote academic programs, student success and university initiatives on the universitys website: csudh.edu, and other online media; ensuring clarity of content and overall user experience; advising management on content strategy; preparing other communications as appropriate to meet office goals.
Education: Bachelors Degree or relevant work experience. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, composition, digital media, web design, digital marketing and/or equivalent experience.
Experience: At least two years in digital communications and writing for the web.
Preferred: Five or more years of professional writing experience, writing for a university, and/or writing for the web; two or more years of experience in web development.
Preferred experience with multiple file formats for web applications (text, graphic, audio, video, etc.)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Expert writing, editing and proofreading skills as evidenced by clips or portfolio of past professional work
- Proficient in web optimization, content strategies, and analytics; content management systems;
- Knowledge of the field of communications, particularly digital media
- Expert networking and interpersonal skills including strong consultative and persuasive skills to work with internal constituents.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Ability to juggle multiple assignments under shifting and tight deadlines.
- Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of communication, media and/or marketing theories and concepts in order to develop and execute communication strategies and plans to promote and position the university.
- Thorough knowledge of applicable copyright and other laws pertaining to publications and the news media
- Comprehensive knowledge of marketing and research techniques and methods.
- Ability to use market research to enhance the impact of communication strategies and campaigns.
Specialized Materials: The position activities may require the use of the following equipment, machinery, tools,vehicles or office equipment:
Computer, MAC platform; computer peripherals such as, but not limited to, printers, scanners, monitors, auxiliary equipment, and accessories.
Research, writing and editing Responsible for meeting with individuals across campus to gain insight on their programs distinctive qualities, successes, etc., in order to plan, develop and execute clear and compelling marketing content for the web that highlights and promotes the universitys faculty, academics, students, support services, initiatives, and overall mission. Assures editorial excellence; ensures content is up to date.
Web page design Using the universitys content management system and templates, create dynamic web pages with a focus on clarity of content and overall user experience; works collaboratively and cooperatively with communications and IT teams on meaningful and measurable web design strategies that enforce university identity and voice
Communications projects as needed, work with the university communications team on various communications to support office goals, including but not limited to e-newsletters, email blasts, and social media content; press releases, news stories, administrative correspondences; sourcing videos, photos, graphics, and multimedia to create interactive campaigns.
