Founding Director of Physician Assistant Studies

St. Bonaventure University (SBU) is seeking applicants for the Founding Director of Physician Assistant Studies (PAS) to establish a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPA) degree program and to direct the proposed Physician Assistant Department within the School of Health Professions.  This is a tenure track appointment at the assistant or associate level, based on experience.  The Director will enjoy many opportunities for inter-professional education as the other members of the School of Health Professions Team become established.  These will include Health Sciences, Public Health, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Healthcare Cyber Security. Collaborative relationships are being developed with local hospitals, medical practices and other community partners upon which to build MSPA program partnerships. The Director of Physician Assistant Studies reports to the Dean of the SHP and is a member of the SHPS Management Team.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Development of new programs and curricula
  • Lead effort to establish accreditation for the PAS program
  • Service on department, school, university, professional and community committees
  • Effective leadership to implement the respective University/School missions and strategic plans
  • Administrative and logistical support of department function
  • Mentorship of junior faculty
  • Development and management of Department budget
  • Effective communication to advocate for the Department within the institution and communities of interest
  • Active and constructive participation in the SHP Management Team
  • Active participation in professional associations related to department 

Successful candidates will have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Eligible for licensure as a registered PA in NYS and hold NCCPA Certification
  • Demonstrated managerial competencies to oversee a comprehensive Department of PAS
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the field as a of PA, including teaching or precepting students
  • Record of effective leadership and management in key areas of responsibility including accreditation, budgeting, strategic planning, assessment, collaboration, and curriculum development
