Resident Director, Housing and Residence Life
Resident Director, Housing & Residence Life – Requisition # 180000005R
This position is responsible for the supervision of residence halls to include oversight and coordination of student employees, safety, student activities, student conduct, and administrative duties. Responsibilities include:
- Student Development: overseeing residential curriculum initiatives with assigned apartment complex; mediating conflicts between roommates and residents; providing effective community building components that support residential curriculum within complex; participating in and supporting department wide programs; supervising staff to ensure that program requirements are met; informing residents of departmental and student code of conduct policies; enforcing and reporting policy violations; performing conduct hearings for minor violations and adjudicate sanctions and tracking judicial cases within a database system; responding to emergency or crisis situations; participating in on-call duty rotation (including holidays); monitoring and maintaining security procedures for residence halls; serving as a resource to students for concerns related to college life.
- Staff Supervision and Development: recruiting, interviewing, training, and supervising 10-15 student staff within assigned complex; training and supervising at least one full-time support staff; conducting individual meetings, staff meetings and regular evaluations; providing positive feedback and motivation; providing and participating in ongoing training and staff development.
- Administration: responsible for managing 1-2 apartment complexes which house 400-600 students; performing functions within assigned residence hall to include, but not limited to, coordinating complex health and safety inspections; completing staff payroll; verifying key inventory; mail distribution; and housing tours; maintaining office hours and responding to student, parent, and stakeholder needs; providing weekly inspections of facilities and follow-up to ensure work is completed; coordinating the check-in and check-out processes and assisting in room change process and room selection; attending residence life staff, departmental, and divisional meetings; chairing and serving on departmental committees and special projects.
This is a live-in position, and compensation includes a furnished apartment.
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred. Experience in a Housing, Residence Life, Student Development, Admissions, Orientation or Counseling is required within a college/university setting. Experience with staff supervision and training is preferred. Must have general knowledge of or the ability to learn, department and university policies and procedures; student development theory and techniques; ability to train and supervise others; ability to observe and detect unusual occurrences and policy violations. Must be able to diffuse and respond effectively to crisis situations as well as react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Must be able to communicate effectively, oral and written.
