The Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic Surgery at St. Michael's Hospital and the University of Toronto are inviting applications for a full time plastic surgeon. The effective date of this appointment is flexible, tentatively aiming for July 1, 2018.

The responsibilities of this position include clinical practice, teaching plastic surgery residents and medical students and research. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required. The candidate will require an academic focus (research, education) which will be an important aspect of their job description. The individual will also have a role in the utilization of technology in simulation and medical education. Research focusing on new imaging technologies for application in pre-operative planning and intra-operative visualization and guidance is desired. Training in quality and patient safety is a desirable attribute for a successful candidate.

Clinical focus will be in the area of breast reconstruction. Free tissue transfer is not anticipated to be part of the clinical focus in breast reconstruction. However, the hospital is a Level 1 trauma centre and plastic surgery is intimately involved in the care of soft tissue, maxillofacial and hand injury. Maxillofacial trauma is a significant component of our activity and expertise in this area is required. We are also a regional tertiary referral centre for reconstructive surgery. Training in microvascular surgery is also an asset.

The candidate must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, and be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

St. Michael's Hospital is located in downtown Toronto and provides care for patients in Toronto and surrounding region. The Hospital is integrated with the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, an institute dedicated to the advancement of research and education. The Department of Surgery at St. Michael's Hospital enjoys a proven track record in tertiary care surgical services with strengths in each of the surgical specialties. The hospital is a Level 1 trauma centre and plastic surgery is intimately involved in the care of these patients. We are also a regional tertiary referral centre for reconstructive surgery.

Financial compensation will be between the range of $200,000 - 400,000, as well as commensurate with qualifications and experience. This estimate is based on fee for service billings.
