Posting Information: The primary responsibility of the Data Architect is to lead enterprise information and data architecture, standards and governance. Includes the definition, design, development, and management of data standards and technology in support of Western Carolina University's data warehouse. Key accountabilities include overall data warehouse design, database architecture, logical and physical data definition, and development of ETL programs. Additionally, the Data Architect is responsible for working closely with functional leaders in developing and maintaining the enterprise data architecture vision, strategy, principles, and standards. They will also work directly with campus leaders in a "Business Intelligence/Analyst" capacity; understanding their data needs, identifying the sources available, and designing the sourcing mechanism and storage architecture. The role requires the candidate to be both visionary and hands-on.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science, business analytics or related field. Additionally, a minimum of five year's relevant work experience building, deploying, and supporting enterprise data warehouse capabilities. * Data warehouse architecture design. * Logical and physical data modeling. * Database design and performance tuning. * Extract/transform/load (ETL) design and development. * Toolset selection and implementation supporting data modelling, metadata management, database design, extract/transform/load (ETL) programming, and performance tuning. * Data governance processes and functions. * Information lifecycle management (ILM) processes. * Data strategy for large scale enterprises - data architecture, business process modelling. * Exposure to end user business intelligence (BI) query and reporting tools such as Performance Point, Tableau, etc. * Strategic and creative thinker with proven analytical and problem solving capability. * Experience presenting to and influencing across an organization. * High level analytical and problem solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to investigate complex issues and make informed decisions when written guidelines are not available. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated experience working with business/functional organizations. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills * Strong willingness to learn new technologies and lead change. * Can both lead and perform hands-on work.

Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools. * High-level persuasion and presentation skills; effectively "sells" and gains buy-in to roadmaps and architectural standards. * Business process analysis. * Project management.
