Director of Donor Relations

Position Summary	
Development and oversight of a comprehensive donor relations program, including foundational and customized stewardship pieces and fundraising, cultivation and stewardship events which engage various audiences and build key relationships with prospects, donors, board, and committee members at all levels. Manage a Donor Relations team, create innovative new programs, maintain and share knowledge of philanthropic trends, and develop relationships with faculty and administrators to achieve fundraising goals. Work collaboratively across the office of advancement to provide a high quality donor experience at all levels.

Essential Functions	
Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
• Motivate, lead, set priorities for, and manage performance of a Donor Relations team.
• Collaborate effectively with all Advancement departments to communicate with and engage donors at multiple levels.
• Develop systems that support good stewardship as a strategy for advancing relationships.
• Develop and execute compelling communications that support donor cultivation and demonstrate the impact of philanthropy as part of a comprehensive fund-raising strategy.
• Develop and execute events that will support fundraising initiatives and priorities.
• Formulate and execute event follow-up strategies for groups of or individual event participants and hosts.

General Responsibilities	
• Reporting to the Executive Director of Annual Giving and Donor Relations, work cooperatively with others and accepts direction from supervisors.
• Create innovative new stewardship programs to ensure donor retention and acquire new donors.
• Maintain knowledge of philanthropic trends to inform program development, and share with colleagues.
• Ensure consistent superior quality and tone of stewardship reporting across time and multiple reporting vehicles.
• Develop giving vehicles and naming opportunities that support fundraising priorities and communicate to internal and external audiences.
• Effectively present and communicate the mission of the College to diverse groups including donors, volunteers, board and/or committee members and others who are important to the institution.
• Manage donor recognition through named spaces and plaques.
• Support presidential correspondence needs, as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education	
Bachelor's degree required with a concentration in English, journalism, marketing, communications, or related field.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities	
• Effective interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff.
• Well-developed written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills; a strong writer and editor.
• Ability to use technology to achieve desired results.
• Ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance of cross-functional teams.
• Ability to communicate a compelling and inspired vision or sense of core purpose.
• Ability to experiment to find creative solutions and analyze and change systems in ways that better support institutional goals.
• Knowledge of desktop applications and relational databases.
• Ability to work effectively in high-tension situations and maintain composure under pressure.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Evening and weekend work and some travel required.
• Ability to use technology to achieve desired results.
• Ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance of cross-functional teams.
• Ability to communicate a compelling and inspired vision or sense of core purpose.
• Ability to experiment to find creative solutions and analyze and change systems in ways that better support institutional goals.

Experience
• 10 years related work experience, including leadership gifts or other direct fundraising experience managing donor relationships.
• Experience in managing, and tracking complex donor relationships.
• Experience planning complex events.
