Overview

 

San Diego State University is seeking applicants with demonstrated experience and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of historically underrepresented groups.

Position Information

 

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

The University Senate Analyst manages the Senate Office—an especially critical responsibility given the transient nature of the Officers’ tenure (one to two years at best). It falls to the Analyst to a) keep the Office organized, b) regularly update the internal and external websites, c) maintain the Policy File consistently to incorporate Senate-approved actions, d) maintain accurate financial records, and e) routinely communicate/liaison with Senators/auxiliaries/administrators about deadlines/pressing business.

Compensation and Benefits

 

Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,000 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,288 - $5,809 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications 

Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.

Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills

  • Experience using the Qualtrics survey/research suite.

  • Professional experience (at least one year) in event planning.

  • Experience with developing and monitoring budgets.

  • Experience developing, updating, and managing large budget spreadsheets, charts, and graphs.

  • Experience gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data.

  • Experience processing purchase requisitions and various expenditures.

  • Experience with website maintenance.

  • Experience developing web-based content.

  • Experience working with diverse populations (students, staff, faculty, administrators) in a university setting.

  • Excellent written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and (to that end) work productively with faculty, students, staff, and administration.

  • Ability to manage several projects at once.

  • Ability to maintain cordial and professional relationships with students, staff, faculty, administrators and community members.

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.

  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially with respect to (1) generating complex (yet accessible) documents within Word, (2) using various mathematical functions and layout/organizational features within Excel (to analyze, update, and report on various kinds of data), and (3) producing clear and effective visual presentations using PowerPoint

  • High proficiency in the use of Adobe Acrobat to organize, compile, present, and archive information (received from multiple sources in various formats) into single and accessible pdf documents.

  • High proficiency in the use of web-based software (Qualtrics in particular), for survey and Senate election/balloting processes.

  • High proficiency in the use of Google Apps (e.g., Docs, Sheets, Drive) to work collaboratively with various parties.

  • High proficiency with Oracle Financials and PI Profile.

  • Experience in basic budgetary practices and principles with an organization, including purchasing, report production, and reconciliation via a web-based application interface, such as Oracle.
