Description of Responsibilities: Will teach a variety of courses within the communication and social interaction major with regular assignments to teach public speaking, message criticism, persuasion, and courses in specialty area. Active involvement in academic advisement and departmental service is expected. The Visiting Assistant Professor may also engage in scholarly research and/or creative activity.
In addition, this position will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship, commitment to undergraduate and/or graduate education, and possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues.
- Master’s degree in communication studies or related field at time of application
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and teaching philosophy
- Evidence of communication-related scholarship and/or creative activity will also be considered
- Expertise and experience in an area related to rhetorical communication, critical rhetoric, and/or social movements/agitation; persuasion; conflict management.

Description of Department: Communication Studies is the largest department in the School of Communication, Media, and the Arts, serving approximately 900 majors and minors with close to 50 full and part-time faculty. The department offers majors in public relations, broadcasting and mass communication, communication and social interaction, and journalism. We also offer an online degree completion program in broadcasting and mass communication and a graduate certificate program in Integrated Media.
