Director of Greek Life
The Director of Greek Life serves as a key staff member in the division of Student Affairs and works closely with all levels of staff, numerous student leaders, and members of the Washington and Lee community. The director provides guidance and support to fraternity and sorority chapters and governing councils and serves as a primary catalyst in facilitating officer transition, developmental programming, hazing prevention programming and risk management initiatives for members of the Greek community.
RELATED AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides vision, direction, leadership and strategic planning for the Office of Greek Life. Coordinates and implements planning goals, programs and reports that inform and guide the Greek community. Various examples include leadership development, diversity education, membership recruitment, wellness, harm-reduction and other efforts to educate members. Collaborates with Vice President for Student Affairs, Dean of Student Life, Director of Housing and Residence Life and other staff regarding planning and management of various Greek Life and Student Affairs initiatives. Actively participates in meetings, committees, student affairs programs and professional staff on-call rotation. Represents the Dean of Students at meetings and events as delegated. Participates in professional development activities on and off campus. Manages and maintains records for all Greek governing councils, including financial and conduct records. Serves as the primary advisor for one of three governing councils. Oversees the daily management and administration of the Greek Life community and facilities. Manages organizational concerns and provides intervention and solutions when appropriate. Communicates consistently and effectively with student leaders and house corporation representatives. Upholds and interprets University policy in an effort to educate students in a consistent manner. Serves as an advocate and resource for Greek organizations and respective councils, officers, chapter officers, actives and initiates. Advises various councils and student organizations about their rights and responsibilities within the context of the University and surrounding community. Works with national organization headquarters, alumni advisors, house corporation representatives and house directors to shape and positively influence chapter members. Develops positive work relations with students, faculty, staff, administration, alumni, parents, and community members. Collaborates with fraternities and sororities to implement programs in conjunction with other Student Affairs offices to enhance student development and the overall Greek experience. Coordinates Student Affairs staffing during high-risk evening and weekend events. Serves as a liaison between the University and Alumni Greek Council. Other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS
A master’s degree is required in counseling, higher education, student personnel or a related degree. Progressive experience as well as proven leadership in student development, student affairs, individual and group collaboration and advisement of students. Minimum of three years of professional experience beyond the master’s degree required.
